Englewood Indivisible and Indivisible Action Southwest Florida rallied a large protest outside Congressman Greg Steube’s office on Tuesday. Support for the demonstration from motorists was overwhelmingly positive.
The organizers gathered signatures on two petitions that were delivered to Steube’s office.
The groups held hand-lettered signs challenging President Trump’s emergency declaration aimed at funding a wall on the U.S. border with Mexico.
Democrats in Congress had successfully blocked most of the funding requested by the President. In response, Trump declared an emergency on the border even though statistics show the number of illegal crossings has declined in recent years.

The protest was peaceful and the counter-protest was tiny. Nonetheless, coverage by the Charlotte Sun disproportionately focused on the counter-protest.
