A standing-room-only crowd heard citizens oppose the granting of several zoning variances to allow a mid-rise hotel & condo project on the historic Placida Fishery property. For now, the historic site will continue to look like old Florida, to the relief of many locals.
Blanchard House was originally built in 1925 for Joseph Blanchard, a local African American sea pilot and a key member of Punta Gorda’s business community, and his wife Minnie, his mail-order bride from New Orleans.
