A much better Alternative to Bottled Water

The Charlotte Sun recently published this letter to the Editor written by Charlotte County Democratic Executive Committee Secretary Judy Schnabel. CharlotteDems.com is proud to share it as we observe Earth Day, 2018

Instead of a “tax write-off” for bottled water, as suggested by a recent letter to the editor, it’s much cheaper and much more environmentally friendly to buy a filter for your faucet or use the filtered water from your refrigerator.  (A replacement filter which lasts 6 – 9 months costs around $30.00.)  Even my dog gets her water through the filter in my refrigerator.

Fact:  Plastic bottles take 700 years to begin composting and 1,000 years to totally degrade in a landfill.
Fact:  Every day millions of plastic water bottles are being discarded — contaminating our precious natural resources.
Fact:  90% of the cost of bottled water is due to the bottle itself.
Fact:  80% of plastic bottles are not recycled.
Fact:  38 million plastic bottles go to the landfill each year in America from bottled water (not including soda).
Fact:  Bottling and shipping water is the least energy efficient method ever used to supply water.

The Sun published an article recently stating that by the year 2050, there would be more trash in our oceans than there are fish.

April 22 we celebrate Earth Day.  Let’s start thinking about Mother Earth EVERY DAY!
