Agriculture Commissioner Candidate R. David Walker visits Charlotte DEC

Democratic candidate for Florida State Agriculture Commissioner R. David Walker spoke before Monday evening’s meeting of the Charlotte County Democratic Executive Committee.

Walker says his background as a scientist gives him a unique perspective on the issues facing farmers and consumers in the Sunshine State. And he assured those in the audience that he would not shy away from recognizing climate change as a key factor impacting agriculture.

Walker is one of three running for Agriculture Commissioner in the August 28th Democratic Party primary election. The others are Nikki Fried and Jeffrey Duane Porter. The winner of the primary will face off against the GOP candidate. Four Republicans are running.

Walker blasted current Agriculture Commissioner, Republican Adam Putnam, who is leaving the office to run for Governor. It was recently revealed that Putnam’s office failed to conduct the legally-required criminal background checks on concealed carry permit holders for an entire year.
