We will discuss the FDEP hearing held on Aug. 25th in Lakeland FL for an application by The Mosaic Company to expand one of their gypstacks at the New Wales facility to accommodate increased storage of phosphogypsum.  Phosphogypsum is the radioactive waste from processing phosphate ore into phosphoric acid which is predominantly used in fertilizer. Learn more about this Mosaic  application and the community response by clicking HERE.

Our speakers will include the DECF State Science Officer Dr. Richard Whitman, the State President of the DECF Russ Conn, as well as Brooks Armstrong and Rachel Curran, Esquire from the non-profit  organization People Protecting Peace River (3PR) who will share their experience from that hearing.

We will prepare for the next scheduled Mosaic meeting on November 2nd in Arcadia where the DeSoto Board of Commissioners will hear testimony from Mosaic and from the public whether to allow the mining of phosphate in Desoto County.   SAY NO IN DESOTO.
