Charlotte County Democrats applaud impeachment inquiry

Teresa Jenkins, vice-chair of the Charlotte County Democratic Party, released the following statement in response to the US House’s formal impeachment inquiry and the release of transcripts from Trump’s call with Ukraine :

“Charlotte County Democrats stand by Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Congressional Democrats in their efforts to safeguard our democracy. Speaker Pelosi and House Democrats made the difficult but necessary decision to open an official impeachment inquiry of President Trump who has repeatedly undermined his constitutional duties and put our country at risk.

Our foreign policy isn’t to be auctioned off for the benefit of anyone’s political campaign. The president’s actions exhibit a blatant disregard for our Constitution and rule of law.

There’s no question that a president who threatens a foreign leader and our national security for their own personal gain, and uses taxpayer dollars to do it, is not upholding their constitutional responsibilities. On inauguration day, President Trump swore to uphold the Constitution. Since that day, he has taken nearly every chance to break his oath.  Our government should be working in the interest of all Americans, not for the selfish gain of this President.”
