Today we take time to remember the 17 victims who were cruelly gunned down at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on Valentine’s Day last year. We remember how the Parkland students led historic statewide, and nationwide calls for action, and forced Republicans to make changes to our gun laws in Tallahassee for the first time in decades. But, we owe these 17 victims much more.
Democrats today stand united with the majority of Americans in calling for universal background checks, a ban on high-capacity magazines and assault weapons, and closing the gun show loophole. Americans should feel safe in our schools, our places of worship, our movie theaters, our nightclubs, and our airports. We will never stop fighting for the day that America is a country where mass shootings are no longer commonplace.
