Punta Gorda — Oct. 29, 2018 — Charlotte County Democratic Chair Patrick Hurley announced today that Florida’s Democratic Candidate for Governor, Andrew Gillum, will visit Punta Gorda on Tuesday, Oct. 30 as part of his statewide bus tour. A 4:00 PM appearance at St. Mary Primitive Baptist Church, 605 Mary St., Punta Gorda FL 33950 will highlight Gillum’s trip.
“We are very excited about Andrew Gillum’s visit,” said Patrick Hurley, Chair of the Charlotte County Democratic Party, “We know first-hand the impact of red tide on our local businesses. Leading environmental groups have wholeheartedly endorsed the Gillum-King ticket to stand up to polluters and fight for better environmental protections in Florida.”
The choice of the St. Mary Primitive Baptist Church for the visit is part of their outreach to faith leaders in combating violence. Says Hurley, “The recent shootings at a Pittsburgh synagogue and the mail bombing attempts planned right here in Florida demonstrate the need to tone down inflammatory rhetoric. Andrew Gillum is committed to restoring civility to politics.”
With the election only a week away, local voters are getting energized. Hurley says, “Dozens of former Republican voters are telling us that they plan to vote for Democratic candidates up and down the ballot. The GOP has become simply too extreme.”
But Hurley cautions that Democratic votes are precious in Charlotte County, “We can’t take a single vote for granted. If you haven’t voted yet, you need to do so now. Early voting continues through Sunday from 7 am to 7 pm in Charlotte County. Use your vote as your voice.”
