The Charlotte County Democratic Women’s Club is once again offering its Betty Gissendanner Scholarship to young women graduating from a Charlotte County high school in the spring of 2024 with plans to attend college in the fall of 2024. Applicants must be registered or pre-registered as Democrats. They are chosen on the characteristics that illustrate the values that were so important to Betty as a Charlotte County Democrat: Civic Engagement, Equal Opportunity, Women’s Rights and Scholarship. In addition to the standard transcript and letters of recommendation that go with the application, the applicants must also submit an essay on a political topic chosen by the Scholarship Committee.
If you know of any young women graduates who are registered or preregistered as Democrats in Charlotte County, please encourage them to apply for the $1000 scholarship. Application packets are available from high school guidance counselors, or interested students can email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
If you would like to contribute to the scholarship fund, please make your check payable to the DWC Scholarship Fund and mail it to: DWC Treasurer, P.O. Box 495896, Port Charlotte, FL 33949. Checks can also be dropped off at the Charlotte County Democratic Club Office located at 3695 Tamiami Trail, Unit D in Port Charlotte.
