May 24th was another sad day in America. Just a few days after the heinous shooting in Buffalo, we now once again had a shooting massacre in our country. This time, innocent children and a teacher were the victims of gun violence in Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas.
The following statement is from the Chair of the Florida Democratic Party, Manny Diaz:
“Once again, we are mourning the death of elementary school children and a teacher who have been killed by a gunman while they were in a place where they should have been safe, their place of learning and work. As a parent and grandfather, I cannot imagine worse pain than losing your child to senseless gun violence. My prayers are with these innocent victims and their families.
“School shootings have become much too common in this country. It is unacceptable that our children cannot go to school without running the risk of getting shot while they learn, grow and play. This is the 199th mass shooting in the United States so far this year, and the deadliest school shooting since the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting that occurred on December 14, 2012, in Newtown, Connecticut, where 20 children and six school staffers lost their lives.
“Thoughts and prayers from politicians beholden to the gun industry are not enough anymore. We must honor these innocent victims and enact sensible gun reform, or these senseless deaths will just continue to happen.
“Every time there is a tragedy of this magnitude, we ask the same question, how many more innocent lives before we do something to stop this nonsense. We will continue asking the same question until there is a real commitment to do something. We owe it to every life cut short; we owe it to every victim and the families of the victims of every mass shooting, and we owe it to our society”, said the Chair of the Florida Democratic Party, Manny Diaz.
