Cape Haze residents halt controversial hotel/condo project

A standing-room-only crowd heard citizens oppose the granting of several zoning variances to allow a mid-rise hotel  & condo project on the historic Placida Fishery property.   After four hours of coordinated citizen input citing legal and environmental conflicts jeopardizing the development plans, the Planning and Zoning Board formally opposed the approval of variances recommended by Charlotte County Planning staff.

This opposition was voiced by local residents, many who mentioned affiliation with Friends of Cape Haze, in a well-prepared rebuke to what appeared to be a fast-track project.

For now, the historic site will continue to look like old Florida, to the relief of many locals.
