Governor quiet on COVID. He lost my vote

The following letter to the Editor was published in the Daily Sun on January 9, 2022.

At a recent speaking event in South Florida, a reporter from a local TV station attempted to ask Governor Ron DeSantis, who has been notably quiet lately, about the recent increase in COVID cases. An aide to the governor stopped the reporter from speaking to DeSantis saying he was having a “private moment.” DeSantis left without answering any questions.

When presented with an opportunity to help Floridians understand and deal with the dramatic increase in COVID infections, the Governor failed to act.

DeSantis and his administration have taken great strides to make it harder for local communities to implement proven strategies to lessen the impact of the disease, yet in the presence of a surge in cases, he offers no explanation.

We need elected officials who will talk to us during difficult times. The governor has lost my vote in the November election.
