A new report shows that Medicare and Social Security have been “bolstered by growing economy” under President Biden and Democrats
The trustees of Medicare and Social Security just released their annual report on the programs. The good news? Both programs are in better shape since President Biden took office because the “economic recovery from the 2020 recession has been stronger and faster than assumed.” Thanks to President Biden and Democrats’ leadership, Florida employment has rebounded quickly after it cratered under Donald Trump. As of April, unemployment is at just 3%, in large part because of the American Rescue Plan that Democrats passed despite no Republican support.
Meanwhile, Republicans are headed into the 2022 midterms with a plan that could end the Medicare and Social Security guarantee. The impact of the Republican plan on Florida seniors and working families could be disastrous, as more than five million Floridians rely on Medicare for their health coverage and receive Social Security benefits each month to cover everything from rent to putting food on the table.
“Thanks to President Biden and Democrats’ American Rescue Plan, Florida unemployment is near historic lows, people have more money in their pockets, and new small business applications are being filed at record rates. This economic recovery has meant that the Medicare and Social Security benefits that so many of us rely on are in better shape than they’ve been in years. Despite that progress, Republicans have a plan that could end the Medicare and Social Security guarantee for almost a quarter of Florida’s population. Our position is simple: Floridians just can’t afford the Republicans’ agenda,” said Florida Democratic Party spokesperson Travis Reuther.
