Editor’s note: The following letter to the editor was published in the Sarasota Herald-Tribune on October 23, 2021. It was written by our secretary of the Charlotte County Democratic Party.
Voters with no party affiliation who support the ideals that underlie our democracy, please make it clear to the Republican Party that you do not support their current anti-democracy agenda.
How? Vote out all Republican officeholders up and down the ticket and consider changing your voter registration to Democrat.
Why? A Republican Party that winks at violence and tries to undermine faith in elections is an anti-American party and a real and present danger to our form of government. Former President Donald Trump’s democracy-wrecking efforts will continue until today’s Republican Party is told by voters “Enough is enough”!
Independent voters: I understand that you have reasons for not registering with a party. But if you’re the least bit outraged that a defeated president refuses to accept the election outcome, it’s time to tell Republicans that what their party has become is hazardous to our democracy’s health.
Vote them out in 2022.
