I am writing to commend the NRA member who wrote and expressed his displeasure at Gov. DeSantis’s efforts to make the open carry of firearms legal in Florida. And then a day later we have another fatal mass shooting at a school in Nashville.
From conversations with NRA members, I am aware not all members are opposed to reasonable gun control. It’s time for NRA members who are willing to look at gun control legislation, to step up and speak out. No one is trying to take your guns away, as is the line constantly fed to NRA members. We are only trying to limit the availability of weapons designed solely for the purpose of killing as many people as possible as quickly as possible. These are combat weapons designed for war.
Come on, guys and gals of the NRA, who have concerns about the direction our national gun policy is headed. It’s time for more to stand up for responsible gun legislation. You are not being disloyal to share your views with your elected officials, friends, family and others.
If you don’t, you are part of the vocal yet clear minority that is holding this country hostage to the gun lobby. Your voice is needed. Now. Change won’t occur until you speak up.
