From Senator Bill Nelson:
Dear Friends,
President Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin met for a private one-on-one meeting in Helsinki, Finland today.
While we don’t know what the two presidents said during that meeting, what President Trump said at a press conference afterward – and his refusal to accept the fact that Russia interfered in our 2016 elections – is alarming, embarrassing and unacceptable.
We know Putin interfered in the 2016 election and we know that he plans to do it again in our upcoming election.
If President Trump won’t stand up to Putin – for whatever reason – to defend our country, then I believe Congress needs to act. And we need to pass even more economic sanctions on Russia and start freezing the bank accounts of its highest leaders.
If you have a minute, you can watch the remarks I gave on the Senate floor earlier today about the president’s meeting with Putin:
As always, please don’t hesitate to contact me on this or any other issue.
Sincerely,
Senator Bill Nelson
