Staggering costs of climate change, reasons for hope are topics of talk.

by Phyllis Wojcik, President, Charlotte County Democratic Environmental Council

Over thirty individuals attended 24 Hours of Reality: Truth in Action on, a global conversation on the truth of the climate crisis and how we solve it.  Alessia Leathers, a leader from The Climate Reality Project, joined volunteers around the world holding public presentations and conversations on our changing climate.

The information included increasing carbon dioxide levels, examples of melting ice, flooding, drought, data about fossil fuel consumption around the world and the staggering cost of climate change.

Although the topic is very somber, Ms. Leathers made a point to highlight ways we can change our behaviors as a country and as individuals. Participants discussed humans’ ability to change and new technology that leads to discoveries every day as reasons for hope.

The event was hosted by the Charlotte County Democratic Environmental Caucus. The Environmental Caucus meets the first Tuesday of the month at 1:30 pm in the upstairs office in Port Charlotte.
