Why some votes don’t count

Thursday afternoon the Canvassing Board of Charlotte County met at the Supervisor of Elections offices at the Historic Courthouse in Punta Gorda.

The three members of the board, County Commissioner Christopher Constance, SOE Paul Stamoulis, and Charlotte County Judge John Burns, reviewed 58 provisional ballots. Provisional ballots are ballots for voters whose eligibility cannot be verified at their polling site. Voters who vote a provisional ballot do not scan their ballots into the tabulation machine. Instead, provisional ballots are placed in secure envelopes to be delivered to the Supervisor of Elections for further processing.
