The Englewood Democratic Club will host a membership meeting on Wednesday, November 17, 2021 at the Englewood Chamber of Commerce at 5:30. The Chamber is located at 601 S. Indiana Ave., Englewood. Please note that this meeting usually takes place on the 4th Wednesday of the month, but due to Thanksgiving, we are hosting the meeting a week early.
We will have a presentation by Richard Whitman, Ph.D., State Science officer of the Democratic Environmental Caucus of Florida. Dr. Whitman is an internationally recognized expert in beach and shoreline ecology and has written over 150 widely cited publications. After 40 years of studying aquatic ecosystems as a university professor and federal scientist, he is now retired and living in Port Charlotte, FL.
Dr. Whitman will discuss the ground water and surface water contamination from phosphate mining and will explain the Heal Our Harbor Initiative.
In addition, we will be announcing the winners of our Small Business Empowerment Award which recognizes Englewood businesses which pursue Employee Satisfaction, Sustainability or Community Involvement.
