Optimism spurs battle for Democratic nomination to replace deceased candidate April Freeman

Democrats from the nine counties in the 17th Congressional District will hold a telephone conference Saturday morning to pick a successor to the late April Freeman as the Democratic nominee for the seat now held by the retiring Thomas Rooney.

That candidate, who would face Republican Greg Steube, will pick up votes already cast for Freeman.
