ACTION ALERT!! Bill to restrict Florida Constitutional Petitions

The Senate Judiciary Committee will hear SPB 7096 on Monday, April 1 at 4:00 p.m.

The bill would require a petition gatherer to register with the Secretary of State. It would place new hurdles in the path of citizen groups that want to propose their own laws and place them on a ballot as a proposed Constitutional Amendment. The mandate would provide for additional opportunities for court challenges to initiatives by those who want to keep a proposal off the ballot.

Suggested Script:

“I ask that you vote NO on SPB 7096. Citizen initiatives are important for the people of Florida to have a say in our government.”
