As Congress makes progress on popular legislation to invest in programs that will lower costs for working families across Florida, Marco Rubio has made one thing clear: he will do whatever he can to stop it. Rubio has once put his own partisan political agenda ahead of the needs of Floridians, and is openly opposing proposals to lower prescription drug costs, invest in care for seniors, provide affordable health care for hundreds of thousands of uninsured Floridians, and more.
“Millions of Floridians are worried about how they’ll afford the high cost of their prescriptions, get the health care they need without going bankrupt, or make sure their loved ones are taken care of properly. But instead of supporting legislation to tackle these problems and lower Floridians’ health care costs, Marco Rubio is opposing it. Rubio’s self-serving ploy is another sign that he cares more about advancing his political ambitions than helping Floridians afford the health care they need,” said Florida Democratic Party spokesperson Grant Fox.
The Build Back Better framework Rubio is opposing includes provisions to lower prescription drug costs for millions of patients, including a cap on the price of insulin. In addition, the bill will invest in new funding for long-term care services for seniors and disabled Americans, improving their quality of life while lowering costs for the family members who care for them. And with over 400,000 uninsured Floridians who could get affordable health coverage under the bill, Florida stands to benefit more from the plan to close the Medicaid coverage gap than almost any other state.
